In the early 1980's VHS revolutionised the way that people in the world recorded and viewed material on televisions. Advancements in technology and lower production costs meant DVD players soon became commonplace relegating VHS recorders into retirement. Technology never stands still and with higher expectations demanded by consumers for High Definition and digital quality media growing momentum Blu-Ray DVD's were produced to cater for the next generation of tech savvy viewers going head to head with a rival HD DVD format.
In the battle for dominance in the market place both Toshiba (HD-DVD) and Sony (Blu-ray) fought both a technologiical and PR battle both publicly and privately before the victor stepped forward in early 2008.
Blu-ray has made an impression on consumers with far greater picture and sound qualities and with the prices of Blu-ray DVD's gradually reducing in price more and more people are upgrading DVD to Blu-ray.
